"What Does it Mean to be 'Born Again' and Made New Through Regeneration?"

In regeneration we are saved from our sin. We are given a spiritual life; we are made a new creature (2 Corinthians 5:17)

We are born again. What does it mean to be born again? It means we are brought into being (born) another time (again). To be born again is to be regenerated by spiritual birth. It is to become a child of God. We are regenerated or renewed spiritually from above.

This new birth is absolutely necessary in order to enter the kingdom of God according to John 3:3-8.

3 Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.”

“How can someone be born when they are old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born!”

Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So, it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”

1 Peter 1:23 explains we are “born again not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever”. A spiritual birth accompanied by a spiritual witness. Romans 8:16 says, “the Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit that we are the children of God.” We have passed from death unto life.

Read 1 John 3:9 and Galatians 4:19.
